Urban League of Philadelphia to Undergo Regional Expansion, Open 3 New Resource Centers

The Urban League of Philadelphia is planning a regional expansion that will see the nonprofit open three new resource centers and more than double its reach, writes Abigail Chachoute for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Once implemented, the Urban League of Philadelphia’s expansion will allow it to advocate and cover for the well-being of underserved communities in 10 additional counties.

“Our expansion is not only territory, but it is also in reach,” said Urban League CEO Darrin Anderson.

As part of the expansion, the Urban League will collaborate with local officials and foundations to provide resources to residents and small businesses.

Currently, the organization reaches about 1.6 million individuals. The expansion will allow it to cover 4.4 million people across the three Pennsylvania collar counties and several others throughout New Jersey.

The Urban League is also planning to open three new resource centers. Two of them are opening in Philadelphia, while the third will open in South Jersey.

The West Philadelphia facility will offer services such as a primary care center for workforce development resources, housing support, uninsured community members, and community classrooms.

Furthermore, the North Philadelphia facility will serve as a reentry center for formally incarcerated men.
