The Urban League Guild, founded in 1958, is a group of progressive volunteers, both women and men, who are members of the Urban League of Philadelphia. These dedicated individuals engage in fundraising for the affiliate and community service.  Monthly luncheon meetings are held at The View, to conduct business and provide updates for both the Urban League Guild of Philadelphia and the Urban League of Philadelphia.

The Urban League Guild of Greater Philadelphia continues to lead with compassion, creativity, and community-first solutions; uplifting families while preserving a proud tradition of intergenerational service.

“FILL A BASKET” PERIOD EQUITY INITIATIVE

Recognizing that far too many young girls in underserved schools miss class due to lack of access to feminine hygiene products, the Guild launched its “Fill A Basket” campaign. Members filled multiple laundry baskets with essential items and donated them directly to classrooms in need—affirming that dignity and education should never be out of reach. With overwhelming success, this initiative is now a semi-annual Guild commitment.

HEALTH AWARENESS DAY: PRIORITIZING MENTAL WELLNESS

In response to a national call from the National Council of Urban League Guilds, this year’s Health Awareness Day centered on “Mental Health Awareness in Black and Brown Communities.” The Guild brought together representatives from NAMI, DBHIDS, Oak Street Health, and more to host a dynamic community wellness gathering featuring speakers, health screenings, fitness resources, and culturally responsive strategies for healing.

BOWLING WITH A PURPOSE

In partnership with NExT Philadelphia, the Guild co-hosted a multigenerational bowling fundraiser that doubled as a joyful community mixer. Members, friends, and families rolled strikes while raising funds for vital Guild programming and strengthening bonds between legacy leaders and rising changemakers.
