Most people know the Urban League runs job programs. Fewer know there is a place, and a team, you can simply walk into with a question about your career. That is the Career Center, and this month is a good time to get to know it.

What the Career Center is

The Career Center is the Office of Workforce Development's front door to the community. It is where a job seeker gets a resume rebuilt, a returning citizen gets connected to fair-chance employers, a career changer gets coached through a pivot, and a young professional finds out which certification is worth the time. It is free, and it is for everyone in Greater Philadelphia.

Working Wednesdays

The heart of the Career Center is Working Wednesday, the department's recurring programming built around the things that actually move a job search:

Career coaching and workforce navigation
Resume development and interview preparation
Employer spotlights and live hiring opportunities
Reentry employment support
Connections to community resources and wraparound services

This fall's series launches on Tuesday, September 29, with "What's NExT For Your Career?", an evening to socialize and strategize with the Workforce team, hosted with NExT Philadelphia at the Urban League offices on JFK Boulevard from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Food will be served. Come meet the team, then keep coming back on Working Wednesdays.

The Career Corner

You do not have to wait for a Wednesday. The department also publishes The Career Corner, the official Urban League workforce opportunity bulletin, with more than 3,500 subscribers and around 70 live listings at a time: job openings from employers like the City of Philadelphia, PECO, Cigna, and the School District of Philadelphia, plus training cohorts, apprenticeship programs, hiring events, and financial empowerment resources. The opportunities closing soonest are always at the top.
