The mission of the Urban League is to empower African Americans and other people of need to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.
The Urban League Guild and NExT Philadelphia: The Network of Extraordinary Talent support the Urban League of Philadelphia through workshops, fundraisers and other activities.
All that we do cannot be accomplished without the helping hands of our volunteers who participate in our Affinity Groups. They expand the work of the Urban League of Philadelphia to help build alliances and create opportunities that foster economic advancement and educational achievement for African Americans.

In existence for more than 50 years, Guild members donate their time to deliver services that extend public understanding and support of the ULP and its programs. Guilders participate in fundraising; and help to develop the leadership skills of ordinary individuals and engage them in local community issues. Guilders traditionally range in age from 45 to 95, but all are welcomed to join! Guilders are active in more than 85 chapters in Urban League communities across the nation. Considered the heart and soul of the Urban League movement, Guilders contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually and play a pivotal role in connecting the Urban League to communities
Angela R. Simmons-Smith is president of the Urban League Guild of Philadelphia
NExT Philadelphia: The Network of Extraordinary Talent (formerly the Urban League Young Professionals of Philadelphia) is a network of young professionals (age 21 to 44) who are committed to leadership development, economic empowerment and community volunteer opportunities. The organization trains, develops, and educates young professionals to take leadership roles within the Urban League of Philadelphia, the civil rights movement, and society-at-large. Members of NExT Philadelphia are defining, developing, implementing, and leading the next generation civil rights agenda.
This is an exciting time in the Urban League movement! As both our country and our region stand at the threshold of change, NExT Philadelphia stands ready to support our community by empowering the young professionals of today to be our nation's leaders tomorrow. Through our programs and community empowerment projects we will help the Urban League of Philadelphia move forward the agenda of Advocacy & Policy, Business & Talent Diversity and Community & Economic Development for all people in Philadelphia.
