| Collaborations…Partnerships…Connections… Over the last several years, the Urban League of Philadelphia has shown tremendous growth. We’ve welcomed new board directors, added new employees, developed new corporate partnerships, improved existing programs, hosted new events, and increased visibility through media exposure and community involvement.
Our work theme, “From Good to Great” has guided a re-invigorating plan and caused us to 1st –focus on basics, 2nd – position the organization, and 3rd – take action.
As we move forward in launching a new era at the Urban League, we are setting a strategic direction that expands and enhances the mission of this great Urban League movement.
Our goal is to build alliances and create opportunities that foster economic advancement and educational achievement for African Americans and others in the Philadelphia region.
Our approach to this goal will be to create connections through collaborations by connecting people and organizations to each other and to resources. We will use the Urban League’s national network to bring the best to Philadelphia, and we will harness private sector interests by creating opportunities for the business sector to access African Americans as employees, vendors and consumers. At the same time, we will connect individuals with one another and with entities that they can help and that can help them.
Our Plan is to develop and build an empowerment circle (e-circle) that includes employment coaching, diversity staffing, workforce development training, homeownership, financial literacy, youth development, professional leadership development, dialogues on race, and advocacy on equality gaps. This work is being done through our empowerment programs known as the 3E’s – Economic Advancement, Educational Achievement and Engagement. The Urban League of Philadelphia is poised to become a social enterprise specializing in the practice of community economic empowerment.
The Urban League of Philadelphia needs you to get engaged in its’ work. We invite you to become a member, join one of our affinity groups, participate in one or more of our programs and attend some of our events. Use your voice to empower change that closes equality gaps and brings more of America’s citizens into the economic mainstream.
